WGM WooJung Couple – Introduction and Initial Review

As a parting gift to our beloved Bianca, who in a few hours will be flying to the land of fan girl dreams aka South Korea, I present to you all my very first post here in Cheongmal Awesome!  Let me take this time to express my utmost gratitude and happiness that I am now part of this cheongmal awesome group! See what I did there? Heehee.

Moving on, I’m sure all of you are familiar with the Korean reality series We Got Married (WGM).  It’s a show where two celebrities are paired as a wedded couple and we, the audience, are given a front row seat to witness their married life.  Although, there have been many couples that have been made, I personally have only watched some KhunToria (Nichkhun of 2PM and Victoria of f(x)) episodes (read: whenever 2PM or Chansung would guest kk~).  My attention was caught as news broke that Ham Eunjung would join the roster of couples.

Putting this on my timeline, I had just finished watching Dream High summer of this year (around May) so I was seriously wishing her husband would be Taecyeon because I totally shipped them in Dream High

…but then he tweeted his good luck to her WGM endeavour and that put out the fire.

Next on the list was Kim Soo Hyun.  Fellow cast member on Dream High as well and co-endorser of Spris, I was totally falling for them especially after seeing their campaign for Spris.

But lo and behold, it still wasn’t him.  So, who could be the future husband of Eunjung?

This guy they call Lee JangWoo:

A little background on the guy:  He’s an actor and starred in the drama Smile, Donghae (or Smile Again), playing an assistant general manager of a hotel.

He used to be in a band with No MinWoo and they were called 24/7 and this guy has some singing skillz!

SPOILERS AHEAD! Go on if you dare.

Campus Couple
I loved their first meeting which happened in a small theatre. JangWoo even made an effort to make it special as he instructed Eunjung around and played music as she stepped on to the stage.  It was pretty awkward at first but they got comfortable when they found out that they attended the same university!  Instant connection right thar, ladies and gentlemen.

Opposites Attract
Honestly, I felt nervous at first.  It looked like Eunjung was much of a complainer and Jangwoo would always try to bend to her ways.  JangWoo is an outdoor type of guy and loves to go camping and Eunjung loves the comfort of a cement house and easy living.  However, how they deal with each other became part of their charm.  They are very different yet they complement each other so well.  I like their give and take relationship.

A flower amongst Bees
Lee JangWoo shows off his possessive and jealous side.  During a campus visit, Eunjung met up with her friends who were mostly guys.  Jaemin-oppa, in particular, was one she was closest to, even mentioning that they had walked along the Han River at night!  In class, Eunjung and Jaemin were asked to sing the duet of Take Me as I Am from the Jekyll and Hyde musical.  At the end of the duet, Jaemin-oppa kneels in front of Eunjung for dramatic effect as if professing his love to her which elicited jealous laughter from JangWoo.  Not one to go down without a fight, JangWoo volunteers to sing the duet with Eunjung and turns out with a great performance.  Now who doesn’t love a man who would step up and take on a challenge?

Molkang Molkang~
Eunjung has so much aegyo!  During their honeymoon in Malaysia, Eunjung uttered the words, molkang molkang (which translates to “mushy, mushy” or “fluffy, fluffy”) in an unusual way and JangWoo found it so cute.  The viewers agree as well as people eventually turned it into a message tone!  I get giddy whenever they say this.  It shows that they have this special thing between them. Even Jaemin-oppa didn’t fully understand it at first when it was shared to him.

Pervert Oppar
As you watch on the series, you will notice JangWoo’s “aggressive” tendencies.  It is one of Eunjung’s perpetual dilemmas that JangWoo is going too fast and that he has ulterior motives.  Oppar even bought her a bikini to wear on their honeymoon!  When Eunjung invited some members of T-ara for their housewarming dinner in their new apartment, it was revealed that JangWoo was fond of Sexy Eunjung.  JangWoo also tried doing the churros kiss game which ended in failure as the churros he bought was too long.  However, his attempts are really adorable and not straight on pervert-like.

The Way I am
Truth be told, when the WooJung couple episodes aired, I didn’t watch them since I felt disappointed that my Kpop OTP (TaecJung) wasn’t happening.  However, the couple filmed a music video together with a song by Zia.  Now this was the thing that pulled me in!  When the teaser came out, a switch in my brain turned on and I decided to give them a try.

So a number of episodes later, imagine my glee as I began to watch Episode 27 where they show the filming of their “love scenes” (“lovey-dovey” scenes more aptly).  Suffice to say, it was death by giddiness.  The couple shared their first kiss!

Overall, I’d rate them a safe 3 out of 5.  The last episode was the best one so far as it showed the lovey dovey-ness of the couple so I don’t know how the next episodes can top it.  We shall see soon so tune in again here at Cheongmal Awesome to find out as I, your resident WooJung stanner, will continue to deliver episode insights!  Annyeong!
